Srinagar, Jul 31 (KNO): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma, along with MLA Billawar Satish Sharma, on Friday met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and raised issues related to sportspersons’ recognition, shrine development, infrastructure and public welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.
They sought intervention for deserving athletes, including para-athletes and Arjuna Awardees, who were reportedly left out of the recent selection list, besides urging strengthening of the Shri Sukrala Mata Shrine Board and improving facilities for pilgrims.
In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the delegation discussed various matters concerning sports, religious affairs, tourism, connectivity and overall development in the Union Territory.
He said the leaders highlighted the achievements of several sportspersons from Jammu and Kashmir and urged that all deserving athletes be recognised and provided the benefits and support they are entitled to.
The delegation also stressed the need to strengthen the Sukrala Mata Shrine Board, improve infrastructure and enhance facilities for pilgrims to promote the shrine as an important religious and tourism destination.
The spokesperson said various issues related to infrastructure development, public welfare and timely execution of projects were also brought before the Lieutenant Governor, who assured that the concerns would be examined on priority.
Sunil Sharma thanked the Lieutenant Governor for his response and expressed hope that the issues raised would be addressed in the larger interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.—(KNO)
